Gym Guilt

The phrase ‘Gym Guilt’ is something we may of all heard at one point throughout our personal fitness journey’s. It’s that guilty feeling you get for missing a workout or having one too many sweets on the weekend…. We’ve all been there.

We here at A-List want you to know that this isn’t a bad thing and at the end of the day, we are all human and need time to rest and recover! But if you do get that feeling more than most, here are 5 things which we believe will help you through those times!

  1. YOUR BODY NEEDS A REST

We all know that working hard through your sessions is key, we will always try to push ourselves to the limits to get the most from our sessions. This can take a toll on your body and tiredness will start to creep in. Food, supplements and sleep will help your recovery, but sometimes a day off is all you need. Don’t think of it as skipping a session, think of it as giving your body that extra time it needs to rest. It will thank you later down the line!

  1. ACTIVE REST DAYS

These are days which you take away from your current work out regime, a day where you don’t train but keep your body and mind focused on your fitness goals. This could be a slow paced walk with friends of family, a chilled bike ride. Any sort of low stress activity which will keep you moving and get rid of that guilty feeling!

  1. NUTRITION IS KEY

You would have heard that the kitchen is where your true gains come from, and we believe that to be true! We find that the hardest part of starting a fitness journey is nailing the nutrition, the training? Easy! So just keep that in mind on the days where you don’t want to train, as long as you are sticking to your nutrition you will always be one step closer to your end goal! Remember, you are what you eat!

  1. REFLECTION

Everyone starts somewhere and has different goals. Whether you are looking to lose fat, gain muscle, training for a specific event, we all start somewhere. So the next time you get the guilty feeling, just remember where you started, look at all you have accomplished, whether that is looking at progress pictures, food diaries, gym log book. Every good day is a step in the right direction, so why let one day ruin that?

  1. ROME WASN’T BUILT IN A DAY

It takes a long time to create great things, if it was easy everyone would do it. A fitness journey is long and challenging, it will test you every step of the way so you should never let one day ruin past work! You will always be your biggest critic, but if you can master the above, nothing will stop you in your fitness journey!
